About Samarkand State Medical University

Samarkand State Medical University (SamSMU), established in 1930, is the first medical university in all of Central Asia — a distinction it has held for nearly a century. Located in the historic Silk Road city of Samarkand, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Uzbekistan, SamSMU follows an ECTS credit-module education system (adopted since 2013) in compliance with international standards. The university is recognised by NMC (India), WHO, and WDOMS, with partnerships spanning USA, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Holland, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Its scientific medical library holds over 200,000 books, and its university hospital has 500+ beds providing extensive clinical training for students.
